CDA USA designs and manufactures packaging machines, such as filling machines, capping machines, labeling machines and monoblocks. Among our solutions, some capping machines are equipped with cap ramps, a system that automatically guides caps to containers. This system serves as a practical alternative to the vibrating bowl, which sorts caps by vibration, by using an inclined conveyor belt. Less mechanically complex, the ramp is easier to maintain and adjust.
However, for a ramp to function optimally, it must be specifically tailored to the caps. Each cap reacts differently depending on its shape, weight, and material.
A valuable time saver for your operators
One of the main advantages of the cap ramp is its ability to automate the cap feeding process. The operator simply pours the caps in bulk into a hopper or bin, without worrying about their orientation. The ramp then sorts and delivers the caps directly to the necks of the containers.
This system eliminates the need for the operator to manually place each cap, resulting in a significant time-saving and reducing the workload. It is an autonomous, simple solution that is perfectly suited for industrial speeds.
Furthermore, the ramp ensures a natural sorting process by only transporting caps that are correctly oriented. Its precise and adaptable design takes into account the characteristics of each cap, such as shape, weight, and center of gravity.
Custom testing with your samples
We know that every cap is unique, which is why it’s essential to conduct tests with your samples to design the optimal ramp. These tests simulate the actual behavior of the caps on the conveyor belt and allow us to adjust necessary settings, such as the spacing of the bars or the incline of the belt.
The bar spacing should be wide enough to prevent caps from getting stuck during their ascent. If multiple cap sizes are used, we consider the largest size to prevent any risk of jamming.
Incline: A key role in sorting
The incline of the conveyor belt is a critical factor for the ramp’s proper functioning. Using gravity, it separates correctly oriented caps from those that are upside down. A well-defined incline ensures natural and efficient sorting without blockages.
The adjustable trap: A simple and effective system
To enhance the sorting effect, we’ve designed an adjustable trap: a slight elevation on the conveyor belt that allows correctly oriented caps to pass through, while misoriented ones fall and are returned to the circuit. This sorting system is smooth, without complex mechanics, and prevents any blockages.
Custom design
The design of a cap ramp is not limited to a standard model. Each ramp is specifically tailored to the caps and production requirements of each client. This is why our teams perform tests with your samples to ensure optimal performance.
