The NLGI was founded in 1933 as the National Association of Lubricating Grease Manufacturers, Inc. to develop a code related to the NRA (National Recovery Act). In 1937, the name was changed to the National Lubricating Grease Institute. The founders were J.R. Battenfeld of Battenfeld Grease & Oil Corporation, Guy Peters of Oil Craft Inc. and W.H. Sauders of International Lubricant Corp. In 2001, the name of the institute was changed to NLGI.
The institute comprises member organizations in 31 countries worldwide. Among the 2,000 readers of our technical journal, the NLGI SPOKESMAN, over 50 countries are represented on every continent. This international representation testifies to the universal interest in lubricating greases.
The NLGI is a non-profit trade association, mainly composed of companies manufacturing and marketing all types of lubricating greases. Membership is at company rather than individual level. Manufacturers collaborate with companies providing equipment, supplies and services. There are also research and education groups, as well as member companies whose interests are primarily technical. Another category of members are consumers, representing organizations using lubricating greases.
CDA USA will be with the National Lubricating Grease Institute on June 10-13, 2024 (San Antonio, TX).
